Module 3.1 Installing Wordess Themes and Affiliate Setup
Bogan Personal Press Installation
Next up to the plate is our personal blog theme designed specifically for this training called Bogan Personal Press.
Bogan Personal Press only functions correctly using the WordPress SEO format we will go over in Module 3.2 WordPress SEO, we have hardcoded the links that will dynamically update your sites URL using the page structure below, they are absolute URLS which is better for optimization.

You will need to enter these pages exactly as we outline them using the permalinks and silo structure, but for now just focus on getting this theme installed and running.
You can download the Bogan Personal Press here. NOTE before the theme is fully functional you must complete this module and module 3.2 to configure the matching permalinks structure, so its Search Engine Optimised.
Installing Bogan Personal Press
All new themes go into /public_html/wp-content/themes/
Break out FireFTP, go to the directory you download BoganBasicPress, extract the theme and upload it using FireFTP like the picture below.
Log into your WordPress site, click Appearance or Themes
Click on the Bogan Personal Press image.
Click Activate.
That was easy right?
Installing WordPress Plugins
Now it’s time to install a few WordPress plugins, you can download them directly and FTP the plugins into WordPress by uploading them into /public_html/wp-content/plugins/ or you can install plugins directly from the WordPress Admin area.
For this module you will need to install
Here is a quick overview on how to install plugins from the WordPress admin area.
Click add new in the plugin sidebar.
You will get the search screen, just type the exact plugin name and WordPress will search for it.
Once WordPress finishes the search you will get an information screen about the plugin, hit install, once the plugin has been downloaded hit activate.
The plugin will now show in the Settings sidebar NOTE some plugins will be displayed under tools.
Bogan WordPress Page Structure
We will be using the below layout for this blog.
As we stated above this is the PAGE structure.

Setting up the Pages
You should have the plugins listed below installed and activated, if not then install and activate them now.
For the contact page will we be using Contact form 7, you also need to install Really Simple CAPTCHA with Contact Form 7 so you can stop spam bots from filling in your form and sending you junk email.
To add new pages simply click Add New in the Pages sidebar.
Enter Contact in the header, click the html tab then past this code [contact-form 1 "Contact form 1"]
Click Publish.
Repeat the process for the About page, add some information about you or your blog.
Services is the same deal as the About page, just start writing stuff.
For the Privacy Policy cut and paste a generated Privacy Policy from here.
For the Web Site Agreement cut and paste a generated Webs Site Agreement from here. NOTE we are using 3 words “Web” “Site” “Agreement”, you must enter your page title exactly the same so the slugs match.
Enable All in One SEO Pack so your site is indexed with the correct descriptions and headlines, this is the data that’s displayed in the search engines so it’s very important in terms of CTR, simply configure All in One SEO by going into the plugin configuration, clicking enable and adding in your Home Title, Home description and Home Keywords, leave everything else as is and click update options.
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator is what we will be using to create a sitemap.html page, once the plugin is installed and activated paste the code into it your Sitemap page NOTE don’t forget to click the HTML tab before pasting in the code, you can get the code from the plugins website.
Now go into plugins from the sidebar, you will see Akismet, this is an antispam plugin and a life saver, did you know 83% of all WordPress comments are spam? Activate akismet and go to http://akismet.com/get/ enter in your email address, get your API key and add it to akismet to stop a ton of annoying spam.
Adding the Bogan Personal Widgets
Let's add in the widgets by clicking widgets
Drag the following widgets into the sidebar in this order.
Adding categories
Click categories.
Fill in the fields and click add category.
Category name is the name of the category you want such as Affiliate SEO.
Category slug in the directory, just cut and paste your category name in there, Affiliate SEO will become /affiliate-seo/postname.html.
Category parent can set the parent category, such as wordpress/wordpress-themes/postname.html
Category description is used to describe what the category is about.
Basic Posting Overview
If you cannot post to your blog yet it’s very simple.
Adding a new blog post.
Different posting functions.
Post Headline is the post name such as /category/postname.html.
Add media allows you to add pictures and media directly into your posts.
Visual or HTML enables the different editing interfaces. You use HTML to cut and paste code or edit code.
HTML command for post formatting allows you to shortcut certain HTML tags such as highlighting a word and adding a hyperlink by clicking the chain.
Post content is where your main content goes.
Adding your posts tags and selecting its category.
Post tags are where you add in related keywords to describe your post, such as WordPress, WordPress Themes.
Categories are where you tick a category for your posts to go into.
All in One SEO Pack Posting options, you can fill in this data or let All in One SEO Pack auto generate it.
Post title is the Page Title of you post. This will show in the search engines.
Description is the Meta description of your post, type in a small paragraph about what your post is about.
Post tags are the same tags you enter into posts tags normally in WordPress.
Once you have finished your post you publish it onto your blog by clicking publish.
Save draft allows you to save to post without publishing it.
Preview allows you to preview the post live inside the blog.
