Module 3 Installing WordPress
How to Install WordPress
Introduction
WordPress is by far the most simplistic solution for getting a web site online, WordPress is not just blogging software, WordPress is great for small, medium and large business sites.
Affiliate Marketers are using WordPress to deploy various types of sites, the set up takes less than 10 minutes, from uploading to installation and login, your ready to go.
WordPress is far more accessible and easier to understand than other Content Management Systems such as Joomla, Magento ect and is tons easier to work with and tweak out of the box for peeps who don’t have a web development background, WordPress also uses minimum system resources and works fine on cheap and free hosting plans.
With the large array of plugins available both free and paid, it’s really a no brainer for BM to be using WordPress in the intro course.
Setting up your new WordPress Blog
We need to get you up and running as soon as possible, so what you are going to do is setup a WordPress blog. Think of your new Blog as an online CV or resume, and don’t worry this is super easy, just follow along during module 3 and you will be using WordPress like a pro.
Installing WordPress Online Using Cpanel
You can use fantastico for a 1 minute install or learn to do it manually. Today we are going to go over the manual process so you can better understand how WordPress works behind the scenes.
Setting up the Database
Open up notepad and cut, paste then configure the following:
—————————-copyandpaste—————————–
Database Name: Choose a Username and enter it on this line
Database Username: Choose a Database Username and enter it on this line
Password: Choose a password and enter it on this line
WordPress:
—————————-copyandpaste—————————–
Save this as your blog name. For example myblog.txt
You must now login to you Cpanel account NOTE you should have received the login details in an email from hostnine if you completed the previous module.
Once you have logged into your Cpanel account scroll down and select MySQL Databases.
You will get this screen, put a database name from the notepad document in here and hit create database.
Now you need to create a username for the database, enter username and password from your notepad file and hit create user.
Next you need to add the user to the database, make sure both the database and username you just created are showing in the red circle then click add.
You just need to set the permissions, so tick the checkbox next to ALL PRIVILEGES and then click Make Changes.
You’re now done setting up your database.

Download WordPress here, extract WordPress then re-zip the WordPress files so it’s not zipped into a folder, use 7zip.
Now login to your cpanel account again and click file manager.
You will get this screen, click upload.
Click browse, select the .zip you just created and wait for it to upload.
Once the upload is complete click the go back to /username/directory/ on the bottom right, you will be taken back to your root directory. Right click the wordpress.zip file and select extract.
Now right click the WordPress.zip file and select delete.
Cool, almost there, all you do now is browse to your domain http://blogname.com and WordPress will load up the installer.
Installing WordPress
Click create configuration file.
Now click Let’s Go.
Now enter the database name, username and password from your notepad file, and leave localhost and wp in the last 2 fields and click Submit.
Next click run the install.
Enter your blog title, in this case your blog name and a WORKING email address then click install WordPress.
Now copy your password to the notepad file as WordPress: Password, then click login.
Now enter your admin and password then click login.
Congratulations you just installed WordPress. If you have Roboform installed it should popup at this screen, so now is a good time to save your blog into Roboform.
Installing WordPress Offline using WAMP
It’s also a good idea to have WAMP installed so you can break things offline without them affecting anything online, so I suggest you install WAMP and get a local wordpress blog installed so you can mess around and test plugins, themes ect.. If you don’t want to have a local server then just skip this part, it’s not that important.
Install WAMP by visiting here, once you have downloaded and installed WAMP follow the instructions below.
Go to http://localhost and select phpmyadmin.
Login using the details you entered while setting up WAMP.
Click privileges.
Now click add new user.
Enter your username, localhost, password then select create database with same name and grant all privileges then click go.
Success screen.
Go to http://localhost/installdirectory and follow the onscreen instructions like you did while installing WordPress online.
