Affiliates Newspapers and Email Lists

I have been thinking a lot about reaching different demographics, the ones hidden away in their lounge rooms reading the paper while having a nice cup of coffee.

You see after a while certain demographics start to become immune to a lot of general me too marketing techniques, like banner blindness, this is market blindness. So it’s good to just get back to basics for a change and push some stuff onto the non tech savvy.

Every time a beginner decides to enter into a market they give it another immunization shot for the rest of us, fact, they blindly and slowly remove any trust between us and the market. Beginners have a tendency to push the wrong offers to the wrong people at the wrong time, once a consumer gets burnt they tend stay burnt for a long long time with an increase of skepticism, word of mouth goes around and long term damage gets done.

Affiliates have almost lost the Y Generation because of PPI, SPAM and scams including ringtones, the Y gen is very unresponsive to the majority of tactics and available offers these days, I guess the targeting was right, but what about the long term damage that has been done to that consumer base, people do learn from their mistakes, and they like to make sure the people they care about don’t go making those same mistakes.

So what happens when you walk right into the pro consumer’s space, the immune?

NOT MUCH happens if you’re a me too type affiliate most of the time, its all test test test, it’s been done and dusted and that’s why I am dropping this post, in the hope that it expands your reach and gives you another perspective.

Anyway online marketing can become a standoff and a lot new affiliates generally move on and wonder why they don’t get clicks, or their CTR is messed up and doesn’t convert, it’s because that market doesn’t click, it never clicks, the know NOT TO CLICK what your pushing because everyone is doing or has done the exact same thing for the past 5 years, this is like the definition of insanity, if its not working for you right now what makes you think it will work later if you’re just repeating the same process over and over again, what do you think people in some markets are just dumber? what? you’re going to waste your time looking for the biggest idiot demographic online? it’s like having 50 cans of coke for sale in the same fridge with the same label, size, price, hoping they pick the 3 random cans you have for sale…..

This is the challenge, it’s just another obstacle, all these “other” affiliates should be making you stronger by making a market more crowded and difficult to crack, forced evolution maybe, they just make you smarter allowing you to climb higher and higher up that ladder by forcing you to stand out, they allow you to continually evolve by thinking different, trying a different approach, because you have too, you can’t stay static like a tree, you need to dynamically flow, popping up everywhere, its kinda like territory or guerrilla marketing, test test and test, more turf more peeps you can monetize, if your struggling in me too then simply just copy the best until you can break out your own ideas, because at least you will have some level of guidance instead of raising a hand in a crowded crowd unnoticed.

So we have the extreme polar opposites in the market space, the tech gen which we are going to ignore during this post and the older or less tech savvy gen who we are targeting, one is watching tunes on YouTube and the other is reading the damn news paper with their mobile turned off.

You should now understand why we are going offline for this, because sooner or later this market is coming online in the millions through those little things called mobile phones.

So let’s merge technologies, newspaper and direct response to hit up the old school.

You can focus on digital delivery, so once it set forget.

Now this is where it can get interesting, so understand we are doing direct response, make money, and we are merging affiliate marketing and newspapers to build a list using offline adverts as the main lead generation.

Now just imagine you have a set of sites setup using the affiliate sales letter formula but in a quick video containing a hook, USP, problem, solution, then FREEBIE running on a video squeeze page that requires an email address, remember these people are not tech savvy, so keep it simple stupid.

Now bringing in the leads is the best part. You can start to experiment a ton on this, in any market, I am just using make money because it’s a easy and you should get a response if you craft the adverts right.

All you need to do is download the Bogan Marketing US Cities spread sheet, download it here then pick out some cities.

Ok now pick a bunch of cites, let’s start with 12, with a population under 20k, start marking a 1 then a 2 then a 3 then a 4 next to each city in one of the free cells in the spreadsheet.

Obviously make sure all the cities you’re choosing have newspapers with classifieds and or ad space.

Now get 4 different types of ads done so you’re set like below.

Now you want to design the ad format, there are tons and tons of different ways to approach this, but to keep things simple start making a list of longtail keywords. You will have a higher level of trust offline so make sure your ads are professionally written for offline.

You get the idea, now you need to make sure there is no competition for the phrase on Google or any PPC ads, once you have the longtail just work on the ad content.

Then keep swapping the ads around until you find one that works so you can scale into other areas.

So you have 4 sites setup, all running the same backend, testing out the best way to drag in the leads, you can give’em the exact web address, whatever, just get the leads onto something you can start direct communication with, I suggest email, but you can run with phone, anything, the sky is the limit.

Start bidding on the phrases in PPC and own the headlines in Google by sniping the keywords, you’re actually building a bunch a mini brands, consider geo targeting the squeeze page so the leads can relate immediately ect… Once you get the format, scale it to larger areas.

You will have fresh untapped leads to play with, you’re in a position to work these new leads from the ground up, so offer them real value immediately, have the freebie outline a easy process to make some money online, even if its just writing articles for Associate Content or doing micro jobs ect…

You should go with the email opt-in, I think its also a good idea to get their postal code or city, but you dont need to if your using Analytics on the site.
